Social media and patron privacy infographic
Advocacy project. Created for LIS 600: Foundations of Library and Information Studies.
The library and information science profession isn’t soley about helping people find the resources they want or need: it’s also about protecting intellectual freedom, freedom of expression, and access to knowledge.
One of my first assignments in LIS 600 was to create an advocacy project based on one of these ethical issues, and I chose social media privacy. Social media is a significant source of information for patrons and a preferred resource for their information-seeking. Therefore, librarians must continue to protect patron privacy through policy and education beyond traditional information literacy efforts. To address this issue, I designed an infographic that guides libraries in using social media while maintaining patron privacy.
Marketing and advocacy chapter presentation
Created for LIS 650: Leadership and Management in Information Organizations.
A team is only as good as its leader, and the same is true for a library. Without effective management, a library cannot effectively assess and respond to the needs of diverse communities. Libraries face increasing questions about their value and competition from other information resources, so one dimension of effective management is advocacy and public relations. I explored this when I designed and then led a chapter presentation on the importance of marketing and advocacy in libraries.
